I thought it would be funnier when Reno 911 pulled me over, however...
In other news- Whoa! Bam! Did someone same BOWLING?
We are lucky to have here in Reno the National Bowling Stadium! It has been described as:
"The only facility of its kind in the world, the National Bowling Stadium is dedicated to the sport of bowling. Opening in 1995, The Los Angeles Times called it the “Taj Mahal of Tenpins.” Living up to its name, the Stadium was elegantly designed with the tournament bowler in mind."
Unfortunately, common folk like ourselves can't actually bowl there.
And for some of you who had asked, yes, the movie KingPin does theoretically take place in the 'No, but most of it was actually filmed in Pittsburgh, PA. Sorry.
But, what was the best movie ever made that also contained bowling? That's right, The Big Lebowski. And in true WhoaBam form, we will be bowling Lebowski style for our next event!
Here are the deets:
Where: Starlight Bowling - (1201 Stardust St.)
When: Thursday, April 3rd 7pm-9pm
What to wear: bathrobes and flip flops
What to Drink: White Russians
Extra Credit: Anyone who dresses like "the Jesus"!
Also happening this week- There is a birthday bash happening this Sunday(March 30) for Blink and Kristen! Call Blink for the location.
First Thursday at the art museum- also April 3rd. I heard only 2 folks went last time!
Oh... and about the Reno 911 title of the blog entry- *looks around* we love the police.

Go Green or go home!
We are WhoaBamming right along this week! We've got a few special events that are taking the place of our regularly scheduled programming. :)
So this week as many of you might know is St. Patrick's day. Now as most folks here in the states use this as an excuse to start drinking green beer at 6am and plow through the day wearing a shirt that says "Kiss me, I'm Irish" (when really, we know you AREN'T!) , I'm hoping that this year we can exploit this national holiday in a more earth conscience and globally minded way.
Before we go there though, why do we celebrate this day? Who was St. Patrick and why is HE so special that he gets a day all to himself?
Well, St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, is one of Christianity's most widely known figures. But for all his celebrity, his life remains somewhat of a mystery. Many of the stories traditionally associated with St. Patrick, including the famous account of his banishing all the snakes from Ireland, are false, the products of hundreds of years of exaggerated storytelling. LIARS! St. Patrick was actually quite fond of snakes and used to put mice outside his door for the snakes to have a free meal.
It is known that St. Patrick was born in Britain (that's right folks, he's not even IRISH!) to wealthy parents near the end of the fourth century. He is believed to have died on March 17, around 460 A.D. Although his father was a Christian deacon, it has been suggested that he probably took on the role because of tax incentives and there is no evidence that Patrick came from a particularly religious family. HA! Death and Taxes my friends!
At the age of sixteen, Patrick was taken prisoner by a group of Irish raiders who were attacking his family's estate. They transported him to Ireland where he spent six years in captivity. During this time, he worked as a shepherd, outdoors and away from people. Lonely and afraid, he turned to his religion for solace, becoming a devout Christian. (It is also believed that Patrick first began to dream of converting the Irish people to Christianity during his captivity.)
After more than six years as a prisoner, Patrick escaped. According to his writing, a voice-which he believed to be God's-spoke to him in a dream, telling him it was time to leave Ireland. To do so, Patrick walked nearly 200 miles from County Mayo, where it is believed he was held, to the Irish coast. After escaping to Britain, Patrick reported that he experienced a second revelation- an angel in a dream tells him to return to Ireland as a missionary. Soon after, Patrick began religious training, a course of study that lasted more than fifteen years. After his ordination as a priest, he was sent to Ireland with a dual mission-to minister to Christians already living in Ireland and to begin to convert the Irish. (Interestingly, this mission contradicts the widely held notion that Patrick introduced Christianity to Ireland.)
So, how can we truly honor him this year? By attending these 2 fantastic events:
The St. Patrick's Rally, on Saturday, March 15th, from 2-3 pm at the brick park next to the Truckee River. Bring a friend and a picture of a renewable energy source to put into our "pot of gold" at the end of our handheld St. Patrick's rainbow. This is an activity being sponsored by our friends at the Sierra Club (and my friend Colin) so we should go.
Also, Saturday night there is a Bluegrass Showcase at Maytan Music Center, (777 S. Center Street). Admission is $5, which includes 7 great bluegrass groups, plus free refreshments!! The music starts at 7pm and continues until about 10pm.
I know that these are both special events, but they are SO special that they were bumped up! Other events this week- Trivia Tuesday night at the taproom. Let's see if Brad will show up before 10 tonight! :)
There is no Delicious Dish this week, however, I heard that there may be a housewarming party coming up soon, so be ready to get your potlatch on!

The Planet-arium
Sorry for all of you who missed out on last weeks WhoaBam Reno event! The Carson City Hot Springs were FAN-freakin'-TASTIC! This may become a reoccurring event. :) There was even some partial nudity, which although unplanned, was suggested to me as a big draw for future events!
Enough about last week, let's check out the next fun and exciting Whoa Bam event! We will be going to the Planet-arium. As usual, here's a little history for those of you interested:
"Fleischmann Planetarium is part of the University of Nevada, Reno and Extended Studies. We offer public star shows and large-format films showing daily in our dome theater, and public star observing courtesy of the Astronomical Society of Nevada. Built in 1964 and originally called the “Fleischmann Atmospherium-Planetarium,” we were the first planetarium in the world to project full-dome movies (of time-lapse clouds and weather phenomena).
After recently undergoing upgrades, Fleischmann Planetarium and Science Center is now one of the first of a handful of planetariums around the world to utilize the Spitz SciDome digital projector, a high-resolution, state-of-the-art immersive visualization tool that produces extraordinarily bright and colorful 3-D images. The new projector is also adaptable to a number of disciplines and uses, supporting collaborations among the planetarium, other University departments and programs, and community organizations."
The down side of the planet-arium is that it's only open until 7pm. Boo! This week is out, so we are heading there next week on Tuesday, February 19th. The last official tour/exhibit starts at 6pm, so let's plan on meeting at 5:30 if people want to carpool.
The delicious dish of the week is Pub N' Sub (1000 Ralston St.)!
Monday nights from 6-9 they have awesome pizza and beer specials! You know who likes pizza and beer? Everyone.
Have a suggestion for what should be added to the chart? Email them to Blink at WhoaBamReno@gmail.com !

That's right friends! We are headed to the West Second St. bar on Monday night to sing our little hearts out! We will be planning on meeting around 9pm.
Extra Credit for this week: Sing a song that mentions Reno!
We are also excited to announce a new addition to WBR- The Delicious Dish. We will be picking a new restaurant every week to go and share a meal at. This weeks Delicious Dish- Sup (with the umlaut). We will be going Monday at 11:30.
A special thanks to Natalie and Brad at the Sierra Taproom for their support last week! We love trivia on Tuesday nights!
PS- No one earned the extra credit from last week, so it's double or nothing this week!
Hope to see you on Monday! And here's a picture of "The Wheel of Destiny"!

Whoa...Bam!
We had a drink at the bar and chatted with some of the Ladies and then called it a night. For those who were really upset about missing out on the museum, word on the street is that they can tour you around there 365 days a year, but only from 11am-3pm.
Thanks to all who attended our first ever WhoaBam Reno event. The next spin is on Wednesday night, so check back in to see what's up for our next exciting adventure!

A Whore[s] of a different color
We are headed out to the Mustang Ranch for some sweet action!
(maybe just a drink or MAYBE more)
The World Famous Mustang Ranch is a brothel located in Sparks just outside of Reno city limits. The world-renowned Mustang Ranch, at one time the largest bordello in the United States, has reopened under new management, now calling itself the World Famous Brothel.
Here's the Drama for your Momma: The reason it's called the World Famous Brothel instead of the Mustang Ranch is because of a silly trademark tiff between brothers. (True Story) You know how it is, one brother buys a brothel on EBay, the other buys one from the BLM... what else could you expect? The Mustang Ranch has been around for a while, but in 1971, it became the state’s first legal brothel and led to a movement that legalized prostitution in 12 of Nevada’s 17 counties.
This weeks event will take place on Monday January 21st at 6pm.
Although there are many exciting menu items to choose from at the Ranch, we are making the museum visit the only WhoaBam Reno event.
All WhoaBam Reno participants should wear something Red so we know who are.
Extra Credit: This week's extra credit is getting a FREE... bumper sticker and putting it on your friends car. Hahahahahaha.
This week's special event is:
Caucus! Get your booty out and let your voice be heard! Nevada is caucusing for the first time ever- so be a part of history. We don't care who you caucus for, just do it!
